DEFENDING FREE KICKS...

You've dominated a game only for your opponent to break away and win a free kick 25 yards from goal. They've got a free kick specialist in the team that curls one into the top corner and then defends doggedly to scrape a 1-0.

Next time, as they are lining up the free kick, press L1/LB to switch control to one of your defenders who isn't in the wall, and put them on the goal line covering the post that they are aiming at.

If they get the free kick on target and your goalie is no where near, your defender will be in a position to clear off the line. If possible, use someone who has a high 'reaction' stat (if you have no idea what this is, don't worry, we'll cover it in the guide), if not, just get anyone there as it will save you a goal or two at some point in the near future.

Launch in external player

The player to the right of the wall dashes back to cover the near post. Although the keeper may have had this shot covered, putting a man here will save your bacon time after time.
Just make sure that you get there before the free kick is taken!
